"Anywhere"

About the music/why it rocks/ why you should check it out- J Minus is a little bit Coldplay and U2 ("Think Of Me"). They're also a little bit Lifehouse and Switchfoot ("After Midnight"), although they're not exactly spiritual. You can also hear some definite notes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Seven", "Contagious"). There might even be a teeny hint of Tom Petty in "A Mile Away". You might think that J Minus might be totally self-indulgent and full of themselves (as so many "indie/pseudo-indie bands" are) right? Well, I can't speak for the band members as people, but the music definitely isn't. There's no hint of self-obsession in J Minus's music. The vocals are melodic and soothing without being lullabies. The guitars in J Minus rock, are often distorted, but that doesn't seem to take away from the band's overall "effect"- music that draws you in- and keeps you there- by sounding familiar and comforting, but with an edge. I wanted to compare J Minus Acoustic to Dashboard Confessional, but I couldn't. That would be like comparing quality chocolate truffles to a Hershey's bar- sure, they're related, and maybe the truffles were influenced by the Hershey's, but is there really any contest as to which one is more satisfying? Just like there is a time and place for Hershey's chocolate, there is a time and place for Dashboard Confessional. But good quality chocolate truffles are smooth, delicious, and rich without being over the top- just like J Minus Acoustic songs are smooth, pleasant to hear, and "full" (you know how some acoustic songs sound "empty"- J Minus Acoustic is the opposite) without sounding like they're meant to be played in a stadium.

Are you in a band, or do you know any awesome bands that you'd like to "nominate" to be in the 100 Bands Project? Send me an email at mollylh@live.com, with the band name, myspace/website link, band location (city and state/country, or if you'd prefer, a region- "Southern California", "New England", etc.), genre(s), what bands you think you sound like, band photo and member names (L to R, and what instrument they play), and anything else you think I should know about the band (if these things aren't available on the myspace). I'm open to solo artists, too. If I like your band, and I think other people will too, I will include you in the 100 Bands Project. Note- to be included in the 100 Bands Project, the band MUST be unsigned, and there MUST be at least 4 songs available for listening on Myspace or the band website.
