On The Victrola

http://www.myspace.com/onthevictrolamusic

Left to Right- Brett Thomas, Pete Mazzoli

Genre- Rock/powerpop/experimental

Location- Staten Island, New York

For fans of/sounds like- Panic At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Matchbook Romance

If you only listen to ONE SONG by On The Victrola, you MUST listen to... "These Ebony Drapes"

About the music/why it rocks/ why you should check it out- The first time I saw the picture above of On The Victrola, I thought I was looking at a picture of Panic At The Disco. But while there are some definite notes of Panic in "Drink Up Bottoms Up" and "That Double Crossing" that aren't ignorable (notably the keyboard parts and some lyrics), OTV is not a Panic cover band. Listen closely and you can almost hear a hint of punk influence. OTV really shines in "These Ebony Drapes", which starts out with a melancholic, simple guitar part, and seems to be about needing some sort of barrier to protect yourself from the outside world- "The sunlight is too bright without my ebony drapes." The instrumental parts on their own might be simple, but along with the lyrics, they work together to draw a pretty clear picture of who OTV is. You know how sometimes you have something to eat and realize, "this is exactly what I needed"? Like that, OTV satisfies a craving for music that you didn't know you had.

Are you in a band, or do you know any awesome bands that you'd like to "nominate" to be in the 100 Bands Project? Send me an email at mollylh@live.com, with the band name, myspace/website link, band location (city and state/country, or if you'd prefer, a region- "Southern California", "New England", etc.), genre(s), what bands you think you sound like, band photo and member names (L to R, and what instrument they play), and anything else you think I should know about the band (if these things aren't available on the myspace). I'm open to solo artists, too. If I like your band, and I think other people will too, I will include you in the 100 Bands Project. Note- to be included in the 100 Bands Project, the band MUST be unsigned, there MUST be at least 3 original songs available for listening on Myspace or the band website, and the band MUST currently be active (no broken-up/on hiatus/inactive bands, please).
